Emily Nietrzeba

DVM, MPH

ABOUT

Emily grew up in the small town of Las Vegas, NV and enjoyed cross country and track and field in addition to Western riding disciplines before heading east to complete her BS in Molecular Biology at Haverford College in Pennsylvania, with special interest in immunology and oncogenesis.

She then returned west to pursue her MPH in Infectious Disease and Epidemiology at UC Berkeley SPH, and after finally realizing all of her extracurricular activities involved animals and rescue creatures, Emily pursued her DVM at UC Davis SVM with emphasis in Small Animal/Equine Medicine, graduating in 2014 and including a rotation at the then-newly established LBEMC!

She worked in mixed animal private practice in Mendocino County for five years before joining CDFA as the Equine Veterinarian Specialist to combine her love of veterinary medicine and education, infectious disease mitigation, and the One Health initiative. She is excited to return fully to veterinary practice and be part of the Penryn veterinary community. Her professional interests include internal medicine, infectious disease management, preventive care and wellness, and emergency medicine and disaster response.

Emily also shares her home with two active and wonderful small humans, a very large and lovely counter-surfing Irish Wolfhound, a sweet but not-a-Nobelaureate Golden Retriever, and a pair of chinchillas and rescue Guinea pigs. She also loves riding (and bribing with carrots and peppermints) her sassy and too-smart-for-own-good Warmblood hunter mare whenever she can.
