Skylar Rich

BVM&S

ABOUT

Skylar was born and raised in Northern California, where she grew up surrounded by giant-breed dogs—an early introduction to her love for animals.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Global Disease Biology and a master’s in Epidemiology from UC Davis. Initially planning to pursue human medicine or a career with the CDC, Skylar realized during her graduate studies that her true passion lay in veterinary medicine—a field that perfectly combined her interests in science, medicine, and animals.

Skylar went on to attend the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. During veterinary school, she completed approximately six months of externships, gaining hands-on experience with sheep and beef cattle in Northern Ireland during lambing and calving season, working at an equine boarding and riding facility, and rotating through various small animal hospitals across California. After graduating, she completed an internship in small animal medicine, with focused training in general practice, emergency care, and specialty services.

In her free time, Skylar enjoys relaxing at home with her husband, Ryan, and their cat, Iris. During the warmer months, she spends time swimming, paddle boarding, and wakeboarding at the lake. In the cooler seasons, she enjoys curling up by the fire with a good book or movie. Year-round, she can often be found in the garden—trying (and usually failing) to keep her plants alive. It’s a work in progress.
